以前から、シーズンオフの水を抜いたプールの光景に目を囚われることが多かった。福島原発事故があった年の夏には、子どもたちが泳ぎたくても泳ぐことができないプールがテレビに映し出されていた。ミニチュアのプールを作りたいと思った。安全で守られたプールは、自然の脅威にふれることも他人の手によって破壊されることもない。気付くとそれは、心に問いかけ、作ることで自分の無意識の部分に触れる「箱庭」そのものだった。

「 Miniature Swimming Pool 」
The idea of making a miniature pool came to me in the summer of 2011
after the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Seeing on a TV screen
a swimming pool children could not go and swim in, I thought I could make a
pool safe and intact from any natural disaster or destruction by any humans. While working on it, I began to realize it was forming itself into ‘Hakoniwa,’
a kind of miniature garden, touching my heart, my unconscious self, inquisitively
in the process.
